The Joys of Creating YouTube Videos - and the Reality of Staying Current
Rug pulled by 'Strategy'
If you've ever made videos for YouTuber—or, even just someone who's dabbled in video creation—you know that there's a lot of work that goes into it.
Writing the script, recording the voiceover, piecing together footage, tweaking edits… it all takes time. A lot of time. And sometimes, just when you think you're finally ready to hit "publish," something wild happens.
Take, for example, my latest video, which I just hit publish this morning, on MicroStrategy. I’ve spent the last week and a half (almost two weeks, actually) digging into the company's history, its journey with Bitcoin, and, of course, the whole "business intelligence" thing they’ve been known for. It was an interesting deep dive, and I was excited to share it with you all because I felt like I uncovered some pretty cool stuff.
But then… bam. Just as I'm about to hit "publish," the company drops a bombshell: they’re rebranding. MicroStrategy is no more. Say hello to their new name: Strategy. Yep, just like that. In the time it took me to research, script, record, and edit a 12-minute video, the company has now changed its entire identity. Fantastic, right?
At first, I was like, “Okay, well… this is a major curveball.” I mean, what’s the point of publishing a video on MicroStrategy when the whole company is now going by something else? But after a moment of panic (and maybe a few deep breaths), I thought to myself, "Why not?"
The video still covers some really interesting points about the company’s evolution, their Bitcoin strategy, and why they've been such a key player in the tech world. Even if the name has changed, the core content is still relevant. Plus, you get a real, unfiltered look at the company just before their big transformation. And hey, maybe it'll be fun to look back on this video in a few months or years and laugh about how I was so close to being current. Who needs to be on the cutting edge all the time, right?
So, here I am, embracing the chaos, and sharing the video with you all anyway. It’s one of those things that makes you appreciate the process (and the unpredictability of it all), even if things don't always go according to plan. Sometimes you just have to laugh it off.
I hope you enjoy the video, and hey, if you end up hearing about the rebrand and think, “Wait, that’s not what they were called when this video was made!”—well, now you know the backstory. And maybe next time, I’ll get that perfect timing... or maybe not. Either way, I’m still having a blast making these videos, and I’m so grateful to have the chance to share them with you.
